Mt Eliza U8 Red 10 v Rosebud 1
The Mt Eliza U8 Reds secured its second win for the season with a 10-1 win away at Rosebud. The Reds formally welcomed their newest team mate in Elliot Melder who started his promising career in goal for the ‘first quarter’. The game got off to a slow start however, and it clearly needed a spark, which came in the form of an eager Christian Bethune who sprinted into action from the bench. Christian single handedly brought the game, and his team mates, to life and over the next 10 minutes he put on a dazzling individual display to score 5 goals and effectively end the contest. Christian was well supported in front of goal by Lewis Jedynak, who terrorized Rosebud with his searing pace and showed great skill in scoring his first two goals for the team in a scintillating display. Rosebud struggled to maintain possession and poor Elliot in goal watched on as the ‘first quarter’ slowly morphed into a ‘first half’ (throwing the coach’s detailed pre-prepared substitutions into disarray). He was champing at the bit to get up the ground and into the action as the Reds went into the main break at 7-0. In the second half, Elliot was unleashed on the game and played well upfront creating numerous chances. However, Rosebud had changed keeper and he was a beauty - repelling many Red shots on goal. In addition, Rosebud also scored a nice goal (much to the delight of all spectators) on a counter attack where their player netted clinically despite close attention by Austen Bettess. However, Max Silk and Austen were duly rewarded for outstanding games with both adding beautiful goals. In a final action, Christian calmly knocked home his 6th goal for the day to take the Team into double figures - capping off a fantastic team effort - and securing Christian a well-deserved ‘player of the week’ award. Well done team!

We played a great game we travelled to play against Brighton flying banshees. The game started fairly even Ethan Sheen kicking two goals, but at half time the other team managed to kick a couple more goals then we did. However all our boys played extremely well really good defence. Dimitri, Tadhg and Matin got players of the week. They all had a really good time, passed really well to each other they worked well as a team.

Not a great start to our weekend with Ethan Weiser making a great trick shot on his bike and spraining his wrist, but was lovely to have him and little Jude at the ground to cheer us on...  Thanks due again to Pauly and his right foot (and 2 goals!) and Giddy for stepping in on their bye week to help us out.  We have a history of getting thumped by Langwarrin, so the even play throughout the whole game was testament to a great team effort.  Standouts were Flynn Baker and his fast legs down the wings, and Lauchlan Sawyers' 2 goals.  2 wins from 2 games... well done boys.

The first game of the season for the MESC U10 Greens, away to Seaford U10 Yellows, and the boys played a great game. We were only 8 players, and Seaford generously offered to have 5 subs and only play 8 to match. With no subs, and a big pitch our boys ran solid the whole game and did us proud. Although we lost 2-0, the boys played great football and left nothing in the tank. I was a proud coach! An honourable mention to Anthony for great keeping, and tirelessly running. Player of the Match to Riley, those solid defending the whole game was spectacular.

Mount Eliza U10 Girls  8 Glen Eira Mindys 4
What a difference a week makes! The Mount Eliza U10 girls came out firing at home against the Glen Eira Mindys on a beautiful sunny morning complete with drone buzzing overhead! The girls were focused on holding their positions, opening up space and using the wings to attack the opposition. It paid off big time with the girls scoring 6 goals in the first half to the Mindys 2. Alex Ewart did an excellent job as keeper and Stella Smith bolstered our attack with some power kicks up the wing! Jessica Baird and Madeleine Hadley were rock solid in defence, making some strong tackles and chasing the opposition relentlessly. Hannah Murton did an excellent job in receiving and passing the ball up the wing in attack. A notable skill the girls improved this week was their pressure and tackling, never letting the opposition have time to think and turning over the play several times. In the second half, despite being tired and kicking into the wind, the girls didn’t let up their efforts and were able to answer the oppositions 2 goals with 2 goals of their own. Chloe Morgan continued the excellent work as keeper with quick throw outs to teammates to catch the opposition off guard. Goal scorers: Indi Bryant with an amazing 4 goals to earn Player of the Match (Indi also showed great sportsmanship, checking on an opposition player who had fallen to make sure she was ok) Lily Rivett with 2 goals (Lily displayed amazing ball control and persistence) and both Alex Ewart and Gemma Gilchrist scoring a goal apiece. Final score was 8 – 4 in the girls favour. Special thanks to Nick for his excellent refereeing & for various drone pilots for not crashing it!

Mount Eliza Greens 2 - Mornington Black 0
With Riley and Indigo away and Kian injured, the Greens had to dig deep and concentrate against one of the two Mornington Kangaroos teams.  In the first half the team were mostly playing with half the fire they usually have. Again they were a force at the back with the 3 Toms not letting any attackers through, leaving Benji very quiet for the whole game. The times Benji did get the ball, his feeding out to the wings was first class. After a half-time talk the team went out and started to play football - harder passes, less time on the ball and more determination one on one to win the ball back. Will D and Harry were consistent throughout the game with their distribution in midfield. Harrison found the net followed by an own goal from one of Wills touches and the game finished 2 nil. There were plenty of chances throughout the game to connect with the ball from some well taken crosses and the scoreline should have been higher. Louie and Will M were unlucky not to get on the end of some of the crosses. Alfie's work rate and attempts on goal in the first half earned him player of the match. Well done Greens!

MESC Yellow 2 Baxter 0
Mt Eliza Yellow hosted Baxter at Emil on a warm and sunny morning - perfect soccer weather.   We knew Baxter were going to be well organised so the challenge was out there for our boys.  Our Coach, Andrew has  been training the boys hard on Tuesday to polish their passing in tight quarters and it was clear to see throughout the game as we outpassed the opposition all the way from our defenders through to the strikers.   Levi and Tully played fantastic towards the back Humphrey and Oscar workrate and creativity down the right hand side, fantastic.  Baxter goalie spilled a screamer from Louis into Andy which was fantastic to finish off the rebound for our first and Tully scored our second.   Great teamwork all round guys.

What an amazing game that was played in the best spirit from the first minute by both teams. The game was evenly poised throughout with flashes of brilliance from both keepers who played a huge part in keeping the game even.On the pitch, it was a tight game with great skill and endeavour  shown by the red stripe brigade. On the sidelines it was an awesome game to watch with Ashton (1 Goal) and Sami finding space up forward. Luis and Kai running ragged  up and down the wings and the defensive trio of Evan, Oscar and Massimo continuing their great development from last year. But it was three players that really stood out for the stripes today and they were Nathan in goals -  with six goals scored in goal-for-goal draw, Nathan was an outstanding keeper and proved that he is the boss of the 22 yard box! Tom on the wings – ran like a machine all day and has taken on every little bit of feedback from the two training sessions and was always a straight, left and right option for teammates driving out of defence and pushing forward. But the man of the match was Mitch. Playing a true captains game, Mitch was instrumental up forward scoring 2 of 3 goals and saving just as many as the last defender down back. He covered the entire pitch all game, remained positive throughout the game and encouraged all his teammates. A great effort by all.

vs Berwick Bears 5-0
The Game started out well for both teams with strong contesting for the ball happening all over the field.
Greens finally found their chance to break the strong defence of Berwick with a nice finish from the on form Malik.
Not long after Malik found the back of the net agian to bring the 1st half to a close.
2nd Half started strong for Berwick, but a even stronger willed Green defence fought hard to keep Berwick at bay.
A timely and brilliant save from our keeper Ahmad saw the Berwick side starting to wear down and a swift counter attack saw the Greens with a corner ball
back down Berwicks end. Malik struck the ball square on the head into the back of the net from a brillant deliverly to bring it to 3 Nil and a hat trick for Malik.
Berwicks attacks subsided which then saw the Greens with most of the possession.
A brilliant run down the left flank saw Liam lobbing the ball into the back of the Berwick net yet again.
Not long after, a hand ball from the Berwick defense saw the Greens with an advantage of a penalty. Ahmad our keeper ran all the way up the pitch screaming to his brother to allow him to take it.
Malik stepped aside and let his brother smash a well place spot kick past the keeper, giving Ahmad his 1st goal to end the game at 5-0.
All credit this game, goes to our Keeper and defense for keeping a clean sheet.

Mt. Eliza Orange 2 defeated by Casey Comets 3 Looking to get our first win of the season, the Oranges had an impressive first half and outplayed Casey for the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately our game got off to a late start, with no fault to ourselves and was reduced to 40 mins.Although the score at half time was still nil-nil, the boys were looking very good and had at least a half dozen cracking shots on goal. In comparison, Casey rarely bothered our keeper Dominic. The second half saw us lose a bit structure and Casey capitalised on a few cheap opportunities. Just like last week, the boys know they are a better team and responded with some nice interplay that resulted in a couple of nicely slotted goals. With a few more Orange shots hitting the posts, the boys continued to press, and like lat week, another 10 minutes may have seen a very different result. They boys are playing some good football in and know that their first win is just around the corner.

The Reds vs Brighton Cobras 5-1
With over half the team away, there was only 6 U13 players available for the match.
8 players from the U12 Greens stepped up to the mark in their 1st game on a full sized pitch and on astro turf.
The game started out well for the Reds with Malik finding the net after 6 mins. 4 Mins later Malik again put another one away after blazing run  through the Brighton Mid field
and put them into confusion. 6 Mins later, Malik again ripped the Brighton mid field apart and calmly put another one away giving Malik his 2nd Hat rick of the weekend.
However, Brighton weren't done and managed put an easy one away bring 1st half to a close at 3-1.
After a peep talk at 1/2 time, the Reds went into the 2nd 1/2 beating back many Brighton on onslaughts. A nicely placed lob from our defence saw  the ball in behind the Brighton defense for a very fast paced Oscar to put the ball away making it 4-1. Again Brighton went on the offensive only to be denied by our Keeper Oliver a few times and a defense that was not going to give anything away easily.
Once again, a well placed ball over the top found Oscars brother Ashely bearing down on goal to put the game at 5-1.
Both sides by this point were very tired and saw the remaining 10mins out without further action.
A big thank you to the U12 boys for stepping up and going from a 1/2 sized pitch to Full sized.
Well done U12/13s

U14

Round 2 found the U14's travelling away to Narre Warren.
With a couple of injuries and unavailability, a valiant 10 Mt Eliza players were pitted against a full squad with interchange.
For periods of the game, the U14's were able to keep possession, and keep multiple efforts by Narre Waren at bay.  Some great saves and stoic defending saw a 3 nil deficit at half time. Each player stayed calm on the ball, and looked to play out of trouble.  Unfortunately, as the second half went on, the extra player for Narre Warren, and their interchange of fresh players began to tell, and they were able to extend their lead, and finish comfortable winners.
This however does not do justice for the team, where every player gave 100% right to the end of the game, ran and competed without complaint, "left nothing in the tank" and most impressively were supportive of each other at all times. Even in defeat, their team spirit showed that there is so much more to the game than the end result.
